Abstract

The archaeological site of the Kultobe settlement is part of the old city of Turkestan (Eskı Türkıstan) and is located in the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site – the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi (350 m from it). In 2020, excavation work was carried out on the territory of the Kultobe settlement at 9 sites. The article presents typological and trace evidence studies of bone tools and artifacts found in the Kultobe settlement. This year, 22 samples from the collection of bone and antler objects were selected for use-wear analysis. To study artifacts and tools, the technique of S. Semenov was used. The surface of the artifacts was studied using a Levenhuk DTX 700 LCD digital microscope. As a result of the analysis, the presence of traces of work on individual tools was revealed, their characteristic features were determined. Bone artifacts were inspected; identification of samples with traces of man-made and other modifications; systematization of the obtained materials – artifacts, samples and production wastes; raw materials and morphological data of objects are determined. The population of medieval Kultobe effectively used the available raw materials. The diet of residents included the meat of slaughtered animals. They processed their bones and then used them for their own needs in everyday life.
